How and Why We Did It
USE CASE STUDIES + PROTOTYPES

We use Use Case Studies to explore, prototype, and, create new ways of addressing the challenges of managing and using eyewitness video for human rights advocacy. With this practice, we are able to build, and share, on previous work and similar solutions across our network. And, to explore emerging technologies to apply and inform their use for advocacy.

We’ve been collaborating with frontline activists to invent new ways to mine stories and data from often overwhelming repositories of video capturing abuse, natural disasters, survivors’ testimonies, protests, and more. Stories told by the people themselves, about the communities they live in, and the injustices they are fighting.

While there may be shared challenges, we are learning from our global network that there are no “one size fits all” solutions for managing these assets safely, ethically, and in a way to tell marginalized stories with impact. But, there are best practices that can help you more efficiently manage your videos and tell stories in a way that clarifies rather than confuses, protects the privacy of victims, and empowers rather than depresses our audiences.

You can explore the Toolkit by best practice workflows or by the solutions we’ve deployed with our partners.
